                         POLISH TATRA SHEPHERD AND EDUCATION.

Its education is very important, and if we speak to you about it here it is simply because we  experienced and understood about them that there are certain matters to attend to and others   to avoid.

However, rest assured we do not pretend to replace a trainer or a behaviorist, only share our experience with them as breeder and owners operating in a home environment.

THE GREAT WHITE TATRA SHEPHERD

This mountaindog, rugged and courageous probably did not foresee one day he would be as domesticated  as he is today. Yet they adapt very well.
Down from the polish mountains they spread out, though not numerous worldwide.

Observing different lines we met tatra shepherds who were more or less dominant.
In each litter different characters with males and females occur also and quite soon after birth we notice this.

As soon as the puppies are born we make sure they are in a quiet environment with their mother so they adjust well and the bond between them develops fast and well.

From day one, when changing the bedding, we immediately notice if any of the puppies stays behind in its growth because we each weigh them every day.
To prevent any risk of infection we avoid all contact of the puppies with visitors up to a month. Also it may be clear that choosing a puppy at this age is far too soon.

We install a radio with them and in principle the mother likes this. Also the puppies get accustomed to other noises in their environment than just their mother and siblings, which is good for their early socialisation

As soon as the puppies open their eyes and start walking, we put toys in the cradle so they can discover new things.

Between 3 and 4 weeks they start on other nutrition and their weight changes daily, but also their behavior.
Each day that goes by we understand the Tatra shepherd is not an ordinary dog as some other breeds there is a huge difference.
We noted for instance that the way they approach when they hear us very is cautious and it is only after several feeding sessions they trust us completely. Do not worry however, they have a large appetite although still little.

Our voices, the sound of our footsteps, bowls, how we open the doors, all these sounds  are familiar for him.

If we notice that one of the puppies in the litter shows reluctant behavior or is responding somewhat fearful to new things then we spend extra time with him.
At four weeks they go into the park with their mother and can enter and sort the cabin as they wish.
At that time, the puppy understands that the needs of nature should be done outside, although some forget!!

For us this  is the best time before we see them part with their new masters.

Between 5 and 9 weeks what a joy to be with them.
Every day they eat a little and change a lot, but keeping in touch is essential.

We do not keep track of the hours we spend with the puppies but it's so important:
After the first vaccine the little family enters the playground. The mother surveys the games and even if she leaves for a while to feed she stays around to keep an eye on them.
There are so many things to tell about their puppyhood with us, but the thereafter is just as important for you and the puppy for, if you purchase a Tatra Shepherd it will be a commitment for many years to come.

The puppy will arrive in his new home on unknown territory with different sounds.
The new masters will need to aproach with great tenderness for the first few hours of his arrival.
Take the puppy outside to do his sanitary and praise it when  done. Take it to the same spot every time and soon it notices  the smell and gets used to it very quickly.

With the puppy that stays with us we attend a school for puppies working with ORTEGA METHOD.
Development of the awareness of the puppy and contact with others and especially with men because it  has to know that it is with them that it spend most of time.
If you find this school in your area please do not hesitate to register.
